Centralia High School (CHS) powerlifters delivered strong performances this weekend at the Olympia Powerlifting Open competing against 215 registered lifters from schools across the Pacific Northwest.
CHS sent six girls and eight boys to the meet. In the girls division, freshman Dani Etter earned an eighth-place finish while competing against upperclassmen. Sophomore Elizabeth Luna lifted her way to her first podium finish in sixth, while sophomore Madison Hardy continued her consistent success with a sixth-place finish in her weight class. Junior Brianna Moran competed in her first powerlifting meet and finished in eighth place.
On the boys side, Lane Markstrom earned a podium finish, placing fourth in a competitive class. In the 148-pound weight class, Payton Warren also secured a fourth-place podium finish, while teammate Jared Wickert finished 10th and remains in contention for a state invitation. Senior Sergio Sanchez, a second-year athlete, earned fifth.
New lifter Juan Rosas Rodriguez, a junior, made a strong impression this season with an impressive 440-pound deadlift. Team captain and senior Julian Crenshaw capped off the meet with a standout performance in the 220-pound class, totaling 1,365 pounds.
“With more than 200 lifters from across the region, the Olympia Powerlifting Open showcased the depth and competitiveness of powerlifting in the Pacific Northwest,” Centralia powerlifting coach Rose Waterfield said in a release. “Centralia’s athletes rose to the challenge and continue to build confidence meet by meet.”
The Centralia powerlifting program is preparing to host its first ever powerlifting meet Feb. 28 at The HUB.
