The Centralia Downtown Association invites the community to come together and honor the legacy of Centralia’s founder George Washington during Founder’s Day on Saturday, Aug. 9, with a full day of meaningful activities that reflect the spirit of the city: Restore. Remember. Rejoice.

Attendees can start their morning with a burst of energy at the Founder’s Day 5K Fun Run, kicking off at 9 a.m. Thanks to Run Amok, runners will receive a double run code, and all are encouraged to stay after the race for a community-wide volunteer cleanup at George Washington Park.

From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., community members will work together to restore the community green space with a focus on weeding, trimming overgrowth and cleaning out flower beds. This effort honors George Washington’s legacy of stewardship and civic pride. Volunteers who pre-register will receive a free George Washington T-shirt, while supplies last.

From Aug. 8 to Aug. 10, residents and visitors can rejoice in community spirit through art by participating in a community mural project.

A graveside memorial ceremony honoring George Washington will be held at 2 p.m. at the Washington family gravesite.
