Centralia College’s New Construction Trades Program Postponed to Fall Quarter

Posted

While Centralia College announced earlier this summer it was bringing its popular construction trades program to the college’s main campus for summer quarter, college officials have decided to postpone the program until September, the college announced Friday.

“There’s a lot of interest; however, the timing was too tight,” said Elizabeth Lazo, dean of career and technical education. “There wasn’t enough time for students to apply to the college, secure funding and register for the program. I think the extra time will really help everyone take a breath, get things organized, and start strong in the fall.”

The construction trades program can be completed in one quarter and prepares individuals for jobs and apprenticeships in the construction industry, according to Centralia College. It covers the basics of construction and workplace safety, blueprint-reading, equipment and tools, and introduces students to a variety of jobs in construction. Students will also earn their OSHA-10 certification.

Although new to the Centralia College main campus, a similar construction trades program has been available for many years and is in high demand at Centralia College’s corrections education sites, the college stated in a news release.

There are no prerequisites and there is no cost to apply.

Classes will run from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday at the Centralia College campus starting Sept. 18. Students who complete the program will earn 20 credits.
