Centralia-Chehalis Chamber of Commerce Microbyte Learning Center presents two sessions: delivering bad news and de-escalation tactics

The Community Mediation Center will address two common challenges — delivering bad news and managing tense situations — during two tightly-focused micro-sessions as part of the MicroByte Learning Center, hosted by the Centralia-Chehalis Chamber of Commerce.

The event takes place Tuesday, July 22, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the chamber’s conference room, located at 500 NW Chamber Way in Chehalis, according to a news release from the chamber.

Due to limited space, participants are asked to register in advance for the free session by emailing director@chamberway.com or calling 360-748-8885.

The first session is titled “Delivering Bad News.” Participants will learn how to communicate difficult messages with both clarity and compassion, the release stated. This session offers tools for being direct while maintaining respect and empathy — ensuring the recipient hears the facts, feels supported and walks away with dignity intact.

The second session directly following the first is “De-Escalation Tactics That Really Work.”

Attendees will discover how to defuse tense interactions and handle upset customers or clients with professionalism. Participants will develop listening skills that help others feel heard and understood while learning to remain calm and composed under pressure.

Each session is 30 minutes long and led by trained staff from the Community Mediation Center, an organization that has resolved more than 5,000 cases over the past 31 years. Executive Director Laura Hight is one of the trainers leading the sessions. With offices in Lewis and Cowlitz counties, the center specializes in parenting plans, landlord-tenant conflicts, neighborhood disputes, workplace disagreements and property division issues, according to the release.
