The Centralia volleyball team got back in the win column at home on Thursday, sweeping Elma 25-20, 25-14, 25-11.
The Tigers took control early in the first set before an Elma run got the Eagles back into it, but Centralia was able to settle in and secure the lead.
Centralia also started off strong in Set 2, but instead of allowing a run, the Tigers quickly finished it off to go up two.
“We always talk about how we gotta keep our foot on the gas pedal,” Centralia coach Marti Smith said. “That’s exactly what we did.”
In the third set, Smith switched things around with her lineup, but the results were the same, and the Tigers finished off the sweep.
Makenzie Erickson finished with four digs, and Ceinna Arelong added seven digs with four aces while going 14 for 16 from the service line.
McKenna Smith went 15 for 17 with four aces while also tallying 13 assists, and five kills, and four Tigers — Logan Baker, Brooklyn Sprague, Shannon Taylor, and Melissa Baine — added five kills each.
Baine also added two blocks, polishing off what Marti Smith called her best game yet at the varsity level.
“We see so much potential in her,” Marti Smith said. “She’s learning and growing, and she was so effective at the net tonight. Her coverage at the net is so valuable … We were just really proud of her.”
Centralia (3-2) will hit the road on Tuesday to face Tenino.
