Fueled by three goals from three different players and another in-match formation change, the Tigers secured a 3-0 victory over the Warriors on Thursday night at home.
After one close setback and one blowout, Centralia (1-2) totaled 18 shots to piece together a victory. Head coach Luis Magana credited moving Cyndal Sills to the midfield to keep possession and changing to a 4-4-2.
Sills rewarded Magana’s belief with a 32nd minute goal on a penalty kick to put Centralia on the board. Emma Ferch and Maddie Ahern found the back of the net for the first time as varsity players in the 62nd and 73rd minute, respectively.
Tigers backup goalie Peyton Thurman notched the clean sheet with six saves.
“It felt good to be the team not chasing,” Magana said. “I am happy for the win, but we still gotta keep working to be where we want to be when league play starts.”
Centralia will hit the road to take on Elma. For Rochester, who dropped its second straight match to fall to 2-2 overall, heads to Evergreen (Vancouver) on Saturday.
