The Centralia softball team found itself down in the seventh, eighth, and ninth against Shelton on Tuesday, but the Tigers battled back and pulled out a 13-12 nine-inning victory over the Highclimbers.
It was a back-and-forth barn burner from the first inning, when Shelton opened the scoring with one run in the top half before Centralia answered with four in the bottom half.
Both teams took turns adding on over the next five innings, but the Tigers held a 7-6 lead going into the seventh.
Shelton plated three runs to take a two-run lead, but an RBI double from Madi Mounts and an RBI single from Payton Baumel tied the game at nine to force extra.
Shelton scored two in the eighth, but Centralia again rallied to tie the game.
After Shelton scored one in the ninth to go up 12-11, Maddalyn “Mad Dog” Rothdeutsch tied the game with an RBI triple, and Baumel followed up with a walk-off double to end it.
Baumel finished 4 for 5 with two doubles and four RBIs, and Makenzie Erickson tallied three hits, including a triple.
One game after hitting her first varsity home run, McKenna Smith belted another homer, a three-run shot in the bottom of the first.
Centralia (3-1-1, 1-0 2A EvCo) will be back at home on Wednesday to host W.F. West.
