The Bunkhouse at Brighter Day Farm, a newly opened preschool in the Adna area, is now accepting students and will celebrate with an open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, Aug. 8.
The open house begins at 11 a.m. and includes snacks, beverages and a coloring activity where children can enter a raffle. The ribbon-cutting ceremony, hosted by the Centralia-Chehalis Chamber of Commerce, will take place at noon. The school is located at 429 Penning Road, Chehalis.
The preschool is housed in a newly renovated historic bunkhouse originally used by farm workers in the early 1900s. Just behind the preschool stands a historic barn built in 1915, adding to the charm of the property.
Owner Audrey Stout, a certified teacher, founded the school to help young children ages 3 to 5 build a strong foundation for kindergarten. She is joined by Katie Price, a fellow mother and local resident. Together, they co-teach all classes and are passionate about supporting families in the region.
Classes follow the Oak Meadow Curriculum with influences from Waldorf educational methods. Stout also customizes each session based on the needs of the class.
“Our goal is to teach the basics — like holding a pencil and recognizing letters and numbers — while also nurturing social skills like sharing, reading facial expressions, and making friends,” Stout said.
Classes take place two days a week in small group settings. The preschool offers a morning session at 8:30 a.m. and an afternoon session at 12:15 p.m., each serving up to 10 children. With four classes total, the school can enroll up to 40 students.
The open house offers an opportunity to tour the historic property and learn more about the school’s programs.
