Wednesday was a solid day for the Centralia College athletic department, as both the volleyball and women’s soccer teams picked up wins while the men’s soccer team earned a draw.
The volleyball team swept Tacoma at home, capping off the sweep in extra points in a 25-16, 25-20, 30-28 victory.
The Trailblazers were down five points late in that third set before rallying back to end it in three.
“I'm proud of our no quit mentality tonight,” Centralia College volleyball coach Ceanna Michalek said. “It would have been easy to let off the gas, but our girls did a great job of rallying back for a marathon ending.”
Nini Hutchings had another great all-around game, posting 16 kills, 13 digs, and three aces, while Jada Whitmore finished with eight kills and seven blocks at the net.
Paige Miller and Abcde Rogers both added five kills, Avery Starr logged 30 assists, seven digs, three blocks, and three aces, and Cadence Gumanas tallied 14 digs.
The volleyball team (19-7, 8-1 NWAC) has now won seven games in a row, remains in first place in the NWAC West, and will head to Highline on Friday.
The women’s soccer team won 2-0 in Lacey against South Puget Sound, taking an early lead off goals from Maylania Mikaele and Kate Wisnewski and never looking back.
The Trailblazers outshot the Clippers 9-2, and neither of the Clippers’ shots were on net.
The women’s soccer team (6-3-4, 5-3-4 NWAC) remains in third in the NWAC West Region, just one point up on Clark for the region’s final postseason spot.
The men’s soccer team snapped a three-game losing streak by earning a 2-2 draw against SPS, as Owen Jacobs and Carlos Angel Hernandez scored first half goals to overcome a 1-0 and 2-1 deficit.
The Trailblazers were outshot 21-12, but Noel Montenegro Corona made 11 saves in net to help CC preserve the draw.
The men’s team (2-14-1, 2-10-1 NWAC) and women’s team will be at home on Saturday for a double header against Tacoma Community College.
