The Centralia College baseball team lost both of its games against Clark College on Saturday, but the Trailblazers were able to bounce back and salvage a split by taking both matchups on Sunday.

Clark won the two Saturday matchups 13-3 and 8-5, both in seven innings.

Jevin Patterson hit a solo shot in the first matchup, while Nolan Christ and Sam Matosich combined for five hits. Reuben Elliston drove in the other two Trailblazer runs.

In the second matchup, Mitchell Rowe hit a grand slam in the second inning to give CC a 4-1 lead, but the Penguins rallied back and pulled away in the late innings. Jack Skelley drove in CC’s other run.

Liam Karlson pitched a gem to help the Trailblazers take Game 3, as he allowed just two hits and one run while striking out eight in seven innings. Rowe and Isaiah Anzaldua tallied two hits and scored two runs each, and Skelley brought home another two to help CC take a 5-0 lead.

The Penguins got to the CC bullpen for four runs in the eighth, but Dillon Kirksey was able to shut the door in the ninth and preserve the lead.

In the series finale, Lincoln McVicker gave up an early run on the bump, but he was lights out after. He pitched a complete game, allowing just two hits and the lone run while striking out 13.

Chase Olsen had three hits and drove in two runs, while Rowe and Anzaldua combined for another three hits and three RBIs.

The Trailblazers (20-22, 11-9 NWAC) are in third place in the NWAC West heading into the final two weeks of the season, two games back of second-place Tacoma but three games ahead of fourth-place Pierce.

They’ll head to Clackamas for a doubleheader on Friday before taking on the Pacific University JV team in a doubleheader on Saturday.
