The Centralia College volleyball team came up just short in four sets against Tacoma Community College on Wednesday, 19-25, 25-21, 25-22, 26-28.

Each game was very close with the battle going back and forth for each set. Each team went on short runs to keep it close after the other looked to be pulling ahead. The final set saw a comeback run for Tacoma to take it, scoring six points in a row to take the lead late in the match.

“Tonight we really struggled in the serve and pass game, when we were in system we were easily able to put balls away,” head coach Ceanna Larson-Michaelek said. “The moment where our serve and pass got away from us it hurt what we are best at running.”

Paige Houghtelling led the Trail Blazers in Kills with 11 while her teammate Ayzha Fuller was close behind with 10. Together, the two combined for over half of CC’s total 39 kills for all four sets. Fuller and Katelyn Hunsaker both had 18 assists, while Fuller and Evie Rooklidge both had eight digs.

“The girls really have worked so hard to up their game every single day in practice and it translates every game,” Larson-Michaelek said. “There has definitely been a lot of improvement in every game.”

The teams were evenly matched in most stats with Tacoma having 44 kills to Centralia’s 39 and 21 errors to the Blazers 25.

This brings Centralia College’s record to 2-19 for the season, with their next game next Wednesday at home against Lower Columbia College.

The Blazers and Titans will meet again later in the season in the final match of the season in Tacoma on November 3.
