The Winlock boys basketball team got itself into the win column Saturday in a non-league game, beating Pe Ell 56-48 at home.
The Cardinals (1-1) jumped out to an early 23-11 lead, and while the Trojans (0-3) cut the deficit to single digits heading into halftime, Winlock responded with another run in the third quarter.
James Cusson and Lincoln Ruiz both had 12 points to lead the Cardinals, with Landen Cline scoring 11 and Freddy Patching adding 10.
Pe Ell’s Carter Phelps led all scorers with 22 points, but was the only Trojan with more than eight.
The Trojans are set to open 1B Columbia Valley League play at home on Tuesday against Three Rivers Christian. Winlock will be off until Thursday, when it heads to Rainier to begin its Central 2B League schedule.
