Cardinals Take Out Lions in Offense-Lover’s Dream

The Winlock football team bounced back from its first loss of the season by lighting up yet another scoreboard in Pierce County, dropping a 60-38 win on Sound Christian at Harry E. Lang Stadium.

Payton Sickles kept the Cardinals rolling on offense with his second four-touchdown game on the ground of the season. The senior quarterback’s legs just kept going and going, accounting for 306 yards on 15 carries, with 228 of those coming on four touchdown runs, each of which went at least 47 yards.

Sickles also went 5 for 6 through the air for another 116 yards and two more scores. Carson Borts was on the receiving end of one – and led the Cardinals with 72 yards on three catches – while Kaiden Perkins caught the other.

Perkins also hit paydirt with a 14-yard run in the second half, and Chase Scofield added a 68-yard scamper in the fourth quarter to wrap up the Cardinals’ scoring for the night.

Sound Christian managed its fair share of offense on the day too – quarterback Zach McKnight ran for 121 yards and threw for 186 – and the two sides combined for 963 total yards.  The defenses did have their fair share of takeaways, though; Winlock fumbled the ball away five times, while SC lost it twice on fumbles and twice more on interceptions.

Winlock (3-1) will take on Oakville in its Homecoming game next Friday.
