Cardinals cruise to win over Kodiaks

The Winlocks girls’ basketball team came out with a win in its season opener on Thursday, as the Cardinals defeated Columbia Adventist 67-34.

Winlock (1-0) came out strong defensively, allowing just four points in the first quarter and eight points in the second. The Kodiaks got into a bit of a rhythm in the second half, but the Cardinals had enough of a cushion to cruise to victory.

Offensively, the Cardinals were consistent throughout, scoring at least 15 points in all four quarters and finishing with four scorers in double figures.

Natalie Cardenas had a team-high 18 points, Adriana Garcia added 15, Kindyl Kelly scored 13, and Madison Pelagio tallied 11.

Winlock is back on the floor Saturday at home against Pe Ell.
