Fans of the long-running first-person-shooter video game franchise Call of Duty will be able to hear sounds recorded in Lewis County when playing the new Call of Duty game due for release in 2027, according to a Discover Lewis County news release.

Call of Duty developers recently visited the historic Packwood Mill property to record acoustic audio samples of gun and cannon fire for the new game.

“With its unique structural features and sound-reflective surfaces, the Mill provided the perfect setting for capturing authentic audio. Prop guns and cannons were used to create impressive sound reflections, transforming the site into an extraordinary recording space,” the release stated.

Developers said the Mill was their “favorite recording space of the year.”

Additionally, developers also ventured out into Lewis County to capture other immersive, authentic sounds as well as scout the landscape for good audio recording locations.

“Whether it’s distant cliff faces, mountainsides, canyons, tunnels, rural houses, factories or even caves, Lewis County’s landscapes could play a vital role in shaping the next generation of Call of Duty games,” the release stated.

The tourism promotion also asked local Lewis County Call of Duty fans for suggestions of quiet, easily accessible “hidden gems” in the county that would be ideal for audio recording.

“Whether it’s a sprawling open space, an eerie tunnel or a picturesque canyon, your suggestion could shape the soundscape of the next blockbuster release,” the release added. “... Who knows? The next time you’re playing Call of Duty, you might just hear the echoes of our very own Lewis County in the background.”
