A complete game on the mound and reaching base three times at the plate by Napavine’s Cal Bullock was more than enough to lead it to a 4-1 triumph over Rainier in a C2BL showdown on Saturday.
Bullock finished with 12 strikeouts on just 94 pitches. The right-hander allowed five hits, but once the Tigers (7-0, 6-0 C2BL) went up by three runs, he didn’t allow a baserunner over the final three innings.
“I feel like we’re getting closer to playing the game we want to play,” Napavine head coach Brian Demarest said. “Our pitchers are doing a really nice job keeping us in ball games.”
Jack Nelson ripped an RBI single in the third to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead, then Bullock roped a run-scoring double and Tommy Deebach added another RBI basehit. Grady Wilson also recorded an RBI single.
Rainier (1-6, 1-6) tied the game with a Peyton Sheaffer run-scoring single in the top of the third. Justin Gurnsey added a double and a stolen base for the Mountaineers.
The two teams will meet again on Monday in Rainier.
