The Boys & Girls Club of Lewis County is partnering with The Home Depot Foundation and its associate volunteer force Team Depot to assemble 36 bicycles at the club’s Robert W. Balmelli Clubhouse in Chehalis for club members.

Through a Home Depot Foundation community grant and volunteer support, local Team Depot volunteers will work side-by-side with Boys & Girls Club members to build the bikes on Monday, Feb. 16, according to a news release from the club.

Youths from both the Chehalis and Centralia club locations will participate, with Centralia club members transported to the Chehalis clubhouse for the event.

When the bikes are finished, the club members will be able to take them home.

“These bikes represent much more than transportation. They represent confidence, independence and a community that shows up for our kids,” said Sarah Althauser, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of Lewis County. “We are incredibly grateful to The Home Depot Foundation for investing in our youth and taking the time to be present with them in such a hands-on way.”

The bike build supports the club’s mission to enable all young people, especially those who need it most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible community members, according to the release.

The Boys & Girls Club of Lewis County serves more than 250 youths annually through programs focused on academic success, healthy lifestyles and character and leadership development, the release stated.

The club currently operates in Chehalis and Centralia, with plans to expand to a third location at the United Learning Center in Centralia in 2026.
