The Boys & Girls Club of Lewis County partnered with The Home Depot Foundation again on Thursday, July 16, to bring smiles, mobility and hands-on community service to local youth.

Team Depot, The Home Depot’s associate volunteer force, visited the club’s Jefferson Lincoln Elementary School site in Centralia to assemble 46 bicycles for club members, according to a news release from the Boys & Girls Club.

Through a Home Depot Foundation community grant and volunteer support, local Team Depot volunteers worked side-by-side with Boys & Girls Club members to build the bikes.

Youths from both the Chehalis and Centralia club locations participated, with Chehalis Club members transported to the Jefferson Lincoln Elementary Club site for the event.

“This partnership is about much more than building bicycles. It’s about building relationships, confidence, and lasting memories for our youth,” Sarah Althauser, Boys & Girls Club of Lewis County executive director, said in the release. “We are incredibly grateful to The Home Depot Foundation and Team Depot volunteers for investing their time, talents and hearts in our club members. Experiences like this remind our kids that their community believes in them.”

For many club members, the bikes will provide increased access to outdoor activity, safe recreation and independence.

The Boys & Girls Club of Lewis County serves more than 450 youth annually through programs focused on academic success, healthy lifestyles and character and leadership development.
