A police explosives team defused a bomb in a public bathroom on the Oregon coast after someone spotted a suspicious backpack Tuesday morning, Oregon State Police said.

Oregon State Parks staff called the police agency around 10:20 a.m. after the discovery of the backpack at the Sunset Beach State Recreation Site in Clatsop County, police said in a statement.

Officials scrambled a bomb squad with experts from Oregon State Police and the Salem Police Department, and the team defused the device without any injuries, police said.

Oregon State Police spokesperson Kyle Kennedy told The Oregonian/OregonLive that the backpack contained a working explosive device.

Police and state parks employees checked other locations around the park throughout the day, but didn’t find any additional explosives.

Police said they believe the explosive found in the restroom was an isolated incident, but they called for the public to keep an eye out for suspicious objects and to call 911 if they find one.

The incident remains under investigation, and police ask anyone with information to call 1(800) 442-0776 and reference case number SP25406805.
