BMW Driver Who Topped 100 MPH on I-5 Dies After Hitting Tree in Oregon, Police Say

A driver died in a fiery crash in Wilsonville, Oregon, early Monday morning after police attempted to pull the car over for speeding on Interstate 5, police said.

A black BMW reached speeds exceeding 100 mph while traveling without headlights in the southbound lanes of I-5 at around 1:45 a.m., according to a news release from the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies attempted to pull over the BMW when the driver exited the interstate and headed west onto Southwest Wilsonville Road, police said.



The car struck a tree near Southwest Brown Road, and the car burst into flames, police said.

Deputies and emergency responders with Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue extinguished the blaze, but the driver, the sole occupant of the BMW, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The driver’s identity has not yet been confirmed.

The sheriff’s office said it has opened an investigation into the fatal crash.
