Baseball returned to the Hub City at its newest diamond, with the Centralia College baseball team christening its new turf field on the CC campus with a gray and wet doubleheader against Skagit Valley, dropping the first game 5-2 before coming back to beat the Cardinals 9-7.

The Blazers exploded out of the gate for seven runs in the first two innings in the Game 2. In the bottom of the first, Casen Taggart plated a pair with a double, and Bennett Comes added an RBI single. In the second, the wheels fell of Skagit Valley’s bus, and Centralia brought home four more on a bases-loaded walk, two wild pitches, and a passed ball.

Ian Bauer earned the win for Centralia, going five innings and allowing three earned runs on five hits. Nick Geersten carried three innings in relief, and Remmington O’Keefe gave up a run in the ninth but earned the save.

Seven Blazers combined for their seven hits, with Tyler Harries knocking a triple and Aidan Marsh hitting a double.

Game 1 saw Skagit open up a 5-0 lead in the first four innings, while Centralia couldn’t get its offense going at all until the back half. Zaia Acklus had two of the Blazers’ six hits, going 2 for 5 with a run scored.
