Black Hills takes two duals against Elma

The Black Hills boys and girls wrestling teams came away with dual wins over Elma on Tuesday, as the boys won 41-30 and the girls 24-18.

The boys were forced to enter the match shorthanded, as some wrestlers dealt with an illness, and they handed the Eagles 12 points via forfeit.

Those who did take the floor had success, however, including Cash Boos (126), Conner Mounts (132), Ammon Combs (165), and J.J. Oraya (190), who all won their matches via pin.

Khristian Brant (144) couldn’t pin his opponent, but he did wrestle well enough to open up a 17-1 lead and earn a victory via tech fall.

Jose Fockler (138) and Aidyn Labouff (120) came away with one point wins, with Fockler topping Elma’s Caden Rademacher 10-9 and Labouff notching a near fall near the end of his match against Aden Johnson for a 7-6 win.

Porter Neklason (150) earned a victory via forfeit.

All four girls who came out on top of their matches won via pin, including Maddie Mounts (125), Abbey Hardy (125), Lizzy Grunenfelder (145) and Estrella Ayala Martinez (170).

The win was especially sweet for Black Hills coach Jason Dick, an Elma alum who spent nearly two decades coaching at his alma mater before coming to Black Hills.

“It was pretty awesome to see everyone and have a little brotherly rivalry,” Dick said.

The girls team is back in action on Wednesday at the Grizzly Stocking Stuffer Tournament in Hoquiam, while the boys return to the mat Thursday in a tournament at the Clark County Events Center.
