Big plays lead to big Mossyrock win

The Mossyrock football team recorded its second straight shutout in a 64-0 blowout win over Sound Christian on Friday night.

It was all Vikings (3-1) from the very beginning, as they scored four touchdowns and got a safety to quickly take a 32-0 lead.

It was a day for big plays, as six of the Vikings eight touchdowns were from at least 25 yards out, including a 61-yard pass from Easton Kolb to Peyton McClure and a 51-yard run from Zack Munoz.

“We got hot early, and just kind of kept rolling,” Mossyrock coach Eric Ollikainen said.

Kolb’s touchdown pass was the Vikings only completion of the day, but he also added 40 yards on the ground on two carries. Marshall Brockway carried the rock seven times, running for 33 yards and a touchdown.

“We were happy to get Marshall a touchdown,” Ollikainen said. “He’s kind of the workhorse for us. He does a great job softening the middle of the defense, and then we can break big plays.”

The Vikings have now lost three in a row since their 11-man loss to PWV to open the season, and Ollikainen acknowledged that while they still have things to clean up, “things are looking pretty good right now.”

The Vikings will look for another big win next week when they travel to Taholah to take on the Chitwhins.
