Beavers top East Jefferson for first win

The Tenino softball team earned its first win of the season on Saturday, as the Beavers handled East Jefferson 13-3 in five innings. The win snapped a four-game losing streak.

The Beavers (1-4) have been able to put runners on base all season, but the issue was getting them home.

That certainly wasn’t the case for Tenino on Saturday, as the Beavers scored two in the first, two in the second, and one in the third before blowing the game open with an eight-run fourth.

“We’ve been putting stuff together,” Tenino coach Chris Johnson said. “I think this was just kind of boom, here we are now finally.”

Chloe Grayless drilled two doubles and drove in two runs, while Kiyah Goodwin drove in three and logged a double of her own. Tamera Snodderly went 2 for 3 at the plate with a double and two RBIs, and she also scored two runs.

Grayless went all five innings in the circle, allowing two hits and three runs (two earned) while walking one and striking out seven.

“Some things kind of got put together the right way,” Johnson said. “A good game for us to kind of put a whole game together … Just happy to get the W before we start league.”

The Beavers will have one more game before they kick off their league season, as they’ll host Rainier on Tuesday.
