Beavers Jump on Tigers in Non-League Win

A bit rusty from over a week off from games, the Centralia baseball team fell to Tenino at Ed Wheeler Field Wednesday afternoon, 11-2.

The Tigers managed seven hits, nearly matching the Beavers’ nine, but committed seven costly errors in the blowout loss.

The Beavers scored in all but two innings, taking it to Centralia after a road trip east last week during spring break, while the Tigers were off.

“Not being able to be on a field the last two days due to rain didn’t help us but we have to take care of the ball better,” Tigers coach Jake LeDuc said. “Those errors didn’t help us, but I’ll tip my hat to Tenino, that's a good ball club. They played hard. I felt like they wanted it more and they played harder than us.”

The Beavers put four runs on the board in the second, and though the Tigers responded with a run in the bottom of the third, they couldn’t keep answering in the non-league defeat.

Tenino’s Jack Burkhardt got the start on the mound and tossed 5 2/3 innings, giving up two earned runs on six hits and one walk with five punchouts. Easton Snider stepped out of the bullpen to pitch the final inning and a third, giving up just one hit and striking out three.

Cody Strawn went 2 for 4 at the plate with a pair of runs scored and RBIs, and Austin Gonia went 2 for 4 with an RBI knock. Brody Noonan rounded out a strong day for Tenino, going 2 for 5 with a run scored, and Mikey Vasser went 2 for 3 with a pair of runs scored and two RBIs.

Centralia scored its runs on an RBI double from Brady Sprague and another RBI knock from Moshie Eport.

The Tigers take on rival W.F. West at Wheeler on Friday at 4:30 p.m. while the Beavers look to make up some games, starting with Montesano on Thursday at 4 p.m.
