Beavers fend off Eagles in close win

The Tenino boys basketball team earned a hard-fought win over Elma on Thursday, staying unbeaten in league play with a back-and-forth 55-52 victory.

With a two-point lead in the final minute, Will Feltus drilled a corner three to push the lead to five, and the Beavers (11-4, 4-0 1A Evergreen) were able to hold on for the win.

Tenino trailed by two after the first quarter, but held the Eagles to just nine points in the second and took a one-point lead into halftime. The second half was just as tight, as neither team could seize enough momentum to pull away before Feltus’ late three put the game out of reach.

Noah Schow recorded another double-double, leading the way with 26 points and 10 rebounds, while Austin Gonia just missed a double-double of his own with 15 points and eight rebounds. Gonia also was active defensively, notching three steals.

Jack Burkhardt also had a stellar game on the defensive end, blocking five shots.

Before they begin their final stretch of league games this season, the Beavers will head to Ilwaco on Saturday for a non-league matchup.
