Beavers fall in non-league tuneup to Crosspoint

The Tenino girls soccer team made the long trip to Poulsbo on Thursday, losing 3-1 to Crosspoint Academy in a non-league matchup that still left it happy with the day.

“To be honest, this is what you want out of non-league games,” Tenino coach Dave Montgomery said. “You want to have some looks at different things and different opponents … before you get into league play, and that’s what we got.”

The Warriors took an early lead in the fourth minute, but the Beavers (5-2-1) equalized 12 minutes later on an Abagail Archibald goal assisted by Chloe Grayless.

Crosspoint retook the lead shortly after, though, and went into halftime up 2-1.

At the break, Montgomery made a couple of tactical changes, and the Beavers took advantage of them to play the Warriors even — before the hosts finally broke through for an insurance goal near stoppage time.

“It was a tale of two halves for sure,” Montgomery said. “(We were) under quite a bit of pressure in the first half, we didn’t have a lot of answers at first. We still had a few good moments, and Abby’s goal was really nice to get it back, but we were simply absorbing pressure in the first half. We talked about it at halftime and made a little tactical adjustment. It was a much more even game.”

Dakota Lees finished with 11 saves for the Beavers.

Tenino will dive headfirst into 1A Evergreen play next Tuesday, facing Montesano.
