Beavers fall in five to Bobcats

The Tenino volleyball team squeezed about as much volleyball as possible as it could into its trip to the Harbor, going to extra points twice and taking the decisive fifth set to the wire in a 26-24, 26-28, 25-12, 20-25, 15-13 loss to Aberdeen.

“We played collectively tonight,” Tenino coach Shauna Carpenter said. “Not one player out-played another.”

Addyson Sutherland led the Beavers (1-1) with seven kills at the net, Jayleen Woodward logged seven digs, and Brianna Asay posted four aces. Kate Burkhardt finished with seven assists, four digs, and two aces, while Brooke Bratton had four kills, three digs, and two assists.

On the front line of the defense, Carpenter said the Beavers logged more blocks Thursday than they had in the entire 2022 season, with Burkhardt, Sutherland, Sophia Hussey, and Kylee Petrich all sharing the team lead with two.

“It’s fun to watch their growth both as people and athletes,” Carpenter said.

Tenino is set to play at Adna’s Season Opener Tournament on Saturday, then head up to Seattle to play The Bush School on Monday.
