Beavers Drop Regular Season Finale to Eagles

Posted

With the 1A Evergreen League order already wrapped up, Friday afternoon’s contest between Tenino baseball and Elma was one last opportunity for both squads to see competitive pitching before the District 4 tournament next Monday in Castle Rock and Hoquiam.

The Beavers blew a four-run lead in the seventh inning to drop their last contest, 9-8, in walk-off fashion, Friday afternoon in Grays Harbor.

Tenino got a start day's work out of Mikey Vasser on the mound, pitching five good innings and allowing just two runs with one earned on two hits and five walks with three strikeouts. Easton Snider pitched another inning of relief, before the Beavers got in a bit of trouble, and allowed just one hit and two runs with two walks.

But walks and hits mounted in the seventh, as the Eagles scored five to walk off the Beavers in seven innings.

At the plate, Kellan Knox crushed his only official at-bat over the fence, going 1 for 1 with three RBIs and three walks. Cody Strawn went 2 for 4 with two runs scored, a double, and four RBIs, and Carson Hart went 2 for 2 with two runs scored and a double.

The result changes nothing for the Beavers, who will take on King’s Way Christian in Hoquiam Monday at 4 p.m. in the first round of the district playoffs.
