The Tenino girls soccer team couldn’t keep up with the unbeaten Seton Catholic Cougars on Tuesday, as the Beavers fell 7-2 in a 1A District 4 quarterfinal.
Seton Catholic led 4-1 at halftime before adding three more in the second half.
“For the most part, we’re happy with some things,” Tenino coach Dave Montgomery said. “There were a few mental lapses defensively. Couple of their goals were great goals, but it felt like we gifted them a couple goals.”
Nessa Culp scored Tenino’s first half goal, and Holly Thoren connected on a free kick in the second half. It’s the first time that the Cougars, who are 16-0, have allowed multiple goals in a game this season.
“We got some takeaways from this,” Montgomery said. “But this result gives us a little confidence going forward.”
Looking ahead, the Beavers (8-9-1) will need to win two straight elimination games to make it to the state tournament, beginning with a game at Columbia (White Salmon) on Thursday. The time of the matchup is to be determined.
“They’re going to be decent,” Montgomery said. “Their field is a little narrower, which plays to our advantage. It makes us that much more potent on set pieces. They have a good forward and left winger. We’ll see.”
