Bearcats Sweep Wolves in Chehalis

After a fairly back-and-forth first singles match, the W.F. West boys tennis team otherwise dominated Black Hills at home in Chehalis Friday afternoon, 6-0, in a sweep.

Singles

First singles: Aaron Boggess def. Josh Do 3-6, 6-2, 6-3

Second singles: Justin Chung def. Colton Mellum 6-0, 6-0

Third singles: Will Cummings def. Caleb Mellum 6-2, 6-0

“Aaron made too many mistakes from the baseline in the first set,” Bearcats coach Jack State said of the first singles match. “We always talk about — from the baseline you’re not trying to win points, you’re trying to extend points. Aaron was trying to hit winners off of everything and made some errors. We talked about that and he totally changed the way he played his game. He almost just went totally to get the ball back, and it worked for him. He had some opportunities to become the aggressor, so we still have some work to do.”

Doubles

First doubles: Bryce Kuykendall and Javyn Han (WFW) def. Landon McKenzie and Aiden Mellum 6-0, 6-0

Second doubles: Sam Mittge and Christian Patana (WFW) def. Alex Martinez and Case Thissell 6-0, 6-1

Third doubles: Gabe Priest and Braden Newman (WFW) def. Kai Sale and Josh Chapman 6-0, 6-0

“Our doubles team, Bryce and Javyn are strong,” State said. “Our younger kids have been playing better and better. They dominated together and put together a good performance. The younger kids have been doing a really good job, focusing as we get closer to postseason.”

The Bearcats have three regular season matches left, starting on Monday on the road against Shelton.
