The W.F. West girls wrestling team showed out at the largest girls wrestling tournament in America on Saturday, placing second as a squad out of 130 teams from four states to converge on Kelso High School for the Braided 64.
Lia Hornby had the highlight for the Bearcats, winning all six of her matches at 135 to come away with first place.
Aurora Martin also got on a podium for W.F. West, taking eighth at 125.
Those two combined for 58 of the Bearcats’ 155.5 points; W.F. West beat out Hermiston (Ore.) by 6.5 for second, with Toppenish blowing out the field for first. All told, 13 separate Bearcats earned points for their squad’s total.
“We coaches are so proud of their efforts and are excited to see them improve every week,” WFW coach Matt Patana said.
Black Hills’ Sloane Kruger took second place at 105, losing to University’s Libby Roberts in the finals.
Tenino’s Dakota Lees was the only other local wrestler to get on a podium, finishing eighth at 155.
