It was just a one-point dual between W.F. West and Tumwater headed into the final three matches of the night, but the Bearcats took care of business in those three matches to pull away for a 44-26 victory.
“We haven’t had a nailbiter in a while,” W.F. West coach Jamie Rakevich said. “They wrestled hard … It was probably the best we’ve looked in a dual this year. Our seniors did well and took care of business. It’s good to go out with a win with them.”
Every senior class is special to Rakevich, but this year’s group — Kage Homan, Beau Guyette, Tucker Land, and Andrew Snyder — were especially so.
Rakevich explained that this was the final group of the “little brothers” from some of his original teams.
“They were kindergarteners when I started here,” Rakevich said with a laugh. “They’re a pretty special crew.”
Guyette (150), Homan (175), and Land (190) all earned wins, while Graysen Serl (165) and Chris Vallejo (285) also earned wins in the first part of the match.
In the back half, John Alexander (120), Lewis Allen (132), Liam Land (138), and Race Scalici (144) were also victorious.
W.F. West will host the Bearcat Invite on Saturday, its last big tournament of the regular season, before heading to Shelton for a dual on Wednesday. With a win in Shelton, the Bearcats would clinch another league title.
