Bearcats Fall to T-Birds in Four

Playing in four tight sets, the W.F. West volleyball team fell at home to league-leading Tumwater Thursday night, 25-22, 25-17, 25-27, 26-24.

The Bearcats served the Thunderbirds tough, and got Tumwater out of system enough at crucial moments to take a set, and push the 2A Evergreen Conference leaders to the brink on more than one occasion.

“We were able to serve tough and get them out of system at crucial times,” Bearcats coach Robert Lucas said. “I’m really proud of the girls and how they stepped up their game. This game was fun to watch, fun to coach, and I’m sure fun to play. The girls didn’t give up and never thought that we couldn’t win. We’re pushing ourselves every day to get better and I believe the scores indicate that.”

Mari Ceesay had a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs, Morgan Rogerson and Julia Dalan both added eight kills, and Chloe Chloupek sent back two blocks at the net.

In the back row, Courtney Jones dug up 22 balls and Savannah Hawkins dished out 14 assists. The Bearcats served 90% as a team in the loss.

W.F. West will head on the road for the second round of its rivalry with Centralia on Tuesday for its next match, while Tumwater takes on Shelton on the road.
