The W.F. West girls basketball team won an early–season showdown of two teams with State designs Saturday, and did so in dominant fashion, beating Port Angeles 57-24.
It was close early, as the Bearcats (2-0) led just 17-16 at the break, but a three from Lena Fragner early in the third kickstarted a 20-0 run in the third quarter.
W.F. West coach Kyle Karnofski said that at halftime, they talked about being patient and executing better on offense, and the Bearcats delivered, outscoring Port Angeles 40-8 in the second half.
Defensively, the Bearcats didn’t force a ton of turnovers, but they did force tough shots on nearly every possession.
Julia Dalan led the Bearcats with her second straight 26-point effort. Dalan also hauled in 14 rebounds and blocked seven shots. Freshman Dilyn Boeck cracked double figures for the second game in a row with 13 points, and she added six rebounds and four assists.
Fragner scored nine and added four assists and three rebounds.
W.F. West will head down to Longview for the second time this season for a non-league matchup with Mark Morris on Monday.
