The W.F. West bowling team got back in the win column on Tuesday, opening EvCo play with a 1,919-1,337 win over Black Hills.

Mack Zuber led the Bearcats with an average of 187, including a high score of 206, and Allie Smitherman averaged 182 on the night.

W.F. West coach Rich Bunker said he’s pleased with the amount of good scores he’s seeing across varsity, junior varsity, and the C team, but noted that the Bearcats are still working on their consistency.

“We are improving every day,” Bunker said. “But we need to get a lot better if we are going to compete for another league championship and a possible trip to state. Our girls are working very hard to get better and we are blessed with many great athletes. We are very much looking forward to seeing what these girls can achieve as the season progresses.”

The win came just a few days after their first loss of the season, a 1,997-1,845 defeat against Columbia River.

Bunker noted that even with the loss, he was pleased with the performance.

Zuber delivered back-to-back 177s, sophomore Avery Osborne added a 168 in her varsity action, junior Kenley Fragner bowled a 166, and freshman Sable Bunker finished her night with a 199, which was the best score of any game of the night.

Next up for W.F. West is a matchup against Centralia at Fairway Lanes on Thursday.
