Bearcats blow out Cruisers in makeup contest

W.F. West and Eatonville were originally supposed to match up against each other in December, but when the game was postponed, the two teams agreed to meet later down the line. The meeting came on Wednesday in Chehalis, and the Bearcats wasted no time in putting it out of reach.

A 31-point first quarter and a dominant defensive effort throughout led W.F. West to a resounding 71-17 victory.

The Bearcats limited the Cruisers to just five points in the first and one in the second while building a 48-6 halftime lead.

“It’s kind of what kickstarts everything,” W.F. West coach Kyle Karnofski said of his defense. “If you can get a stop and get out and run, that’s the way to do it. That’s how we want to play, and that’s what we’re looking for.”

On the other end, the Bearcats were just as well balanced on Tuesday, when they defeated Aberdeen in another blowout. In that game, 12 different Bearcats got on the board, and on Wednesday against Eatonville, nine different players got on the scoresheet.

Four of them hit double-figures, including Joy Cushman, who led the way with 19 points. Dilyn Boeck was right behind at 18, Kaitlyn Chloupek scored 14, and Mallory finished with 11.

“Getting everybody to have that confidence to score is awesome and it makes us harder to scout and defend,” Karnofski said. “And it gives the girls confidence to take the shots and make them too.”

W.F. West (10-4, 3-0 2A EvCo) will look to extend its winning streak to six on Friday, when it heads to Shelton for a road EvCo contest.
