Bearcats best Lumberjacks to open postseason

The W.F. West boys basketball team came away with a close win over R.A. Long on Saturday, overcoming a fourth-quarter deficit to top the Lumberjack 53-46 in a 2A District 4 quarterfinal.

The Bearcats (15-5, 11-1 2A EvCo) led by five after one, but R.A. Long fought back and took a one-point lead into the locker room.

The Lumberjacks extended their lead to five entering the fourth, but Tyler Klatush took over in the final frame to propel W.F. West into the district quarterfinals.

In the fourth, Klatush scored 14 of W.F. West’s 19 points, helping the Bearcats retake the lead and put the game away late.

Klatush also finished with four rebounds and four assists, while Lucas Hoff added 12 points and four assists. Grady Westlund just missed a double-double with eight points and nine rebounds, while Parker Eiswald had an efficient, all-around game with 12 rebounds, six points, and six assists.

The Bearcats are now into the district semifinal, a winner-to-state match against Columbia River at Mark Morris on Tuesday.
