Bail is set at $100,000 for a Chehalis man accused of brandishing a pistol and threatening to kill a woman and her family, including their shared child, during an argument inside a vehicle on Sunday.

Dillon Matthew Halliday, 22, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail at approximately 4:07 a.m. on April 20 after officers with the Chehalis Police Department responded to a report that Halliday was brandishing a firearm and threatening to kill someone at approximately 3:38 a.m. in the 300 block of Southwest McFadden Avenue, according to jail records and court documents.

Officers arrived at the scene and contacted three people, including Halliday and the victim, inside a vehicle.

The victim reported that she and Halliday were at a bar earlier that night and that Halliday was “extremely intoxicated.” While driving home from the bar, Halliday allegedly threatened the victim with a gun, telling the victim “he was going to ‘kill my whole family, plus my kid,’” according to court documents.

Halliday allegedly had two firearms at the time “and had them out at some point in time,” according to court documents.

The victim denied that Halliday ever pointed the guns at her.

The third occupant of the vehicle reported that Halliday was “waving the guns around while making statements that he was going to kill her and her family if she took his daughter away,” according to court documents. That witness said “he was uncertain if the gun was pointed at (the victim) during the incident, but he could see it in Halliday’s hand while making the threat.”

The witness reported that he had picked up Halliday and the victim from a bar after he received a call from someone reporting that “Halliday was trying to fight people in the bar and had pulled a gun on someone,” according to court documents.

The witness reported that he took Halliday’s guns from him and secured them in the center console before driving him and the victim home.

Halliday allegedly retrieved the firearms once he was inside the vehicle and jumped from the front seat to the backseat, where he allegedly pushed the victims and threatened her while brandishing the firearms.

Responding officers located two firearms, a Glock 19 and Glock 23, inside the vehicle when they arrived.

Halliday was charged Monday, April 21, in Lewis County Superior Court with one count each of felony harassment, unlawful display of weapon and unlawful carrying a concealed pistol.

“I think that these allegations are completely out of character,” defense attorney Rachael Tiller said of Halliday during his preliminary hearing in Lewis County Superior Court on Monday, noting a lack of similar history on Halliday’s criminal record.

“I can’t really say whether these allegations are out of character for Mr. Halliday or not,” Lewis County Superior Court Judge Joely Yeager said in response, adding, “These allegations are extremely concerning and an extreme risk to community safety.”

In addition to granting the prosecution’s request for $100,000 bail on Monday, Yeager approved a no-contact order in favor of the victim.

Tiller indicated Monday that the victim did not want the case against Halliday to be filed and did not want a no-contact order in place.

The order prohibits Halliday from having any contact with the victim and from going within 1,000 feet of her residence, workplace or vehicle.

Yeager ruled Monday to allow Halliday to have contact with the child he has in common with the victim, under the condition that all communication about the child has to be done through a third party.

Arraignment is scheduled for Thursday, April 24.
