Bail set at $100,000 for woman, 18, accused of repeatedly stalking victim of alleged Vader steel mallet attack

An 18-year-old woman charged in December for allegedly hitting a woman on the head with a steel mallet during an argument in Vader and for allegedly stalking the same victim after she posted bail on the assault case was arrested again on Monday for allegedly continuing to stalk the victim.

Sara Kathryn Jackson, of Castle Rock, was charged Tuesday, Jan. 7, with one count each of felony stalking and violation of an anti-harassment no-contact order stemming from a Cowlitz County District Court case and separate no-contact orders stemming from Lewis County Superior Court cases.

Jackson is accused of violating the Cowlitz County order on Dec. 5 when she allegedly “showed up at (the victim’s) residence and they got into a verbal altercation,” which escalated to the point where Jackson allegedly struck the victim in the head with a steel mallet, according to previous Chronicle reporting.

A witness reported that Jackson and the victim “had been talking crap to each other via Snapchat throughout the night” prior to the incident.

In that case, Jackson was charged with one count each of violation of a protection order and second-degree assault. She posted $10,000 bail on Dec. 9 and pleaded not guilty to both charges on Dec. 12.

She was later charged Dec. 23 with one count each of stalking and violation of a protection order for allegedly driving by the victim’s residence in Vader and messaging her on Snapchat on Dec. 22.

While the prosecution filed a motion to amend or revoke her conditions of release for the assault case given the new charges, the court denied that motion on Jan. 2.

Jackson pleaded not guilty to the charges stemming from the Dec. 22 incident on Jan. 2, and posted $50,000 bail on Jan. 3, at which time she was released from jail.

At approximately 7:10 a.m. on Jan. 6, the victim in both the assault and the previous stalking case reported that Jackson was attempting to contact her online and by phone.

Jackson allegedly interacted with the victim’s Instagram story on Jan. 5 and began messaging and calling her via Snapchat the morning of Jan. 6, according to court documents.

When questioned by a deputy, Jackson allegedly “said she did not contact (the victim) and stated she believed a friend logged onto her Snapchat account,” as Jackson had given a friend the login information to her social media accounts “so she could keep her ‘snap streaks’ while she was in custody,” according to court documents.

Jackson allegedly “also said she didn’t think her friend would do something like this.”

When told deputies would be getting a warrant to get the chat logs, timeframes, account emails and IP addresses regarding her Snapchat account, Jackson reportedly “appeared surprised and said she’d had (another friend) spend the night at her house the night before, but she wasn’t sure if (the friend) had her account logins.”

Lawler granted the prosecution’s request Tuesday, Jan. 7, to set Jackson’s bail for the new case at $100,000.

“I’ll grant the state’s request given that this keeps happening here,” Lawler said Tuesday.

Arraignment is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 9.
