The Riverhawks welcomed their adversaries from Down Under and couldn’t leave on top, seeing a double digit lead evaporate and fall to the Aussies 55-47 on Saturday afternoon.
A combined 39 points from Ellie Fallon and Ryah Stanley was not enough to overcome the length of the Australian team. The Aussies used a 19-7 advantage in the second quarter to take the lead and kept their foot on the gas with 30 in the second half.
Toledo (7-3) was down three with 30 seconds left in regulation, but the Aussies going 5-of-6 from the free throw line made the difference. Sidney Kruger added four steals and Kailea Lairson secured five rebounds. The Riverhawks take on Pe Ell on Monday in another non-league tilt.
“Proud of the way we battled down the stretch,” Toledo head coach Brian Layton said.
