Alma H. Jacobsen, 80 years old of Vader, WA, died October 1st 2010, in Centralia, WA.

Born October 11, 1929 to Carl and Ann Lee (Peircey) Hancock, Andrews, NC.

Raised in Peachtree, NC Alma was the fifth of six children.  Always sharing colorful stories of growing up in the NC Mountains, Alma forever loved the outdoors.

Moving to Vader in the 1950’s Alma surrounded herself with family and friends. Alma became very involved with the community and was a member of the Rebecca Lodge, Lions Club and AA.  She is noted for helping to start the first AA group in Vader.  Alma worked many jobs including Shakertown Cedar Products, IFA Tree Nursery, Adams Nursery, The Cannery in Chehalis and spent many summers in the local strawberry fields as a field boss.  Alma’s first love was gardening and she had an envious green thumb, also fascinated with birds, the bird feeder was always kept full.

First living in Vader then later on her farm on the road to Winlock, Alma loved to walk with her dogs through the woods during blustery weather.  In 1995 Alma purchased a house in Vader and restored it to its 1890’s stature.

Although never having children of her own, “Aunt” Alma, was always there for her many nieces and nephews.  Over the years Alma would make many pilgrimages back to Murphy, NC often taking a niece or nephew to school them in the family history, always sharing with them the stories of her childhood and appreciation of the beautiful country side.

Alma enjoyed country and bluegrass music, rarely missing the Grand Ole Opry on TV.  Known to everyone was her famous Banana pudding, always the first request for family gatherings.

Alma is survived by her brother Haden Hancock of Vader, and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews their families and friends.
