Monsters and people were roaring at the Southwest Washington Fairgrounds on Saturday for the 114th annual fair’s loudest event in the Grandstands Arena.

For the first time in more than 20 years, the fair hosted a monster truck show. The Monster Truck Nitro tour featured 10,000-pound “car crushing giants” competing in races, wheelie competitions and freestyle performances, according to the Southwest Washington Fair website.

The event was sponsored by I-5 Cars and, before and after showings at 1 and 7 p.m., included rides in the back of a monster truck to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Lewis County.

Trucks raced before freestyle events, where the crowd voted on winners with cheers.
