Adna thumps Ilwaco for first victory of season

Two goals apiece by Ava Humphrey and Gracie Stone pushed the Pirates to a C2BL-opening win over the Fishermen 8-0 at home on Wednesday night. It also marks Adna’s first win of the year after an 0-4-2 non-league slate.

“The girls felt a sense of relief even though we know how much playing the larger schools helps us prepare for the year,” Adna head coach Patrick Richardson said.

Due to Ilwaco not having enough players, the match was played 9 vs. 9 and the eight goals scored by the Pirates all came before the 60th minute, which per the new WIAA rule, ended the game early via the new mercy rule.

Stone scored in the 12th and 32nd minute while Humphrey tallied her goals in the 20th and 56th minute. Humphrey also laced a corner kick in the 49th minute that found Alyson Terry. Bailey Nailon had two assists and a 27th minute goal plus Sophie Hegseth had a goal and an assist.

Adna will take on Toledo on Monday in a key early season league match.
