Spurred by a double-double from McKenna Torrey and a second half rally, the Pirates came out on the right side of the scoreboard with a 51-47 triumph over the 3A Hilanders on Tuesday night in Kelso.
It caps a season-opening eight-game stretch where Adna (7-1) went on the road six times. It will get some home cooking starting next week when it takes on Hoquiam and Neah Bay.
The Pirates squandered a three-point cushion after one quarter to trail by four at halftime and one entering the fourth. Two triples from Ava Humphrey and clutch free throws from Torrey sealed the victory. Torrey notched 18 points and 13 rebounds while Humphrey scored nine and grabbed 10 boards.
Rhylee Beebe added 13 points and seven rebounds plus had team-highs with four assists and four steals.
