The Adna boys basketball team lost its season opener on Wednesday, as a late scoring surge propelled 1A King’s Way Christian over the Pirates 68-62.
The Pirates entered the fourth quarter with a small lead, but the Knights scored 25 in the final frame to take control and earn the win.
“It was a typical first game of the season,” Adna coach Luke Salme said. “We played well at times, and we struggled at times. They were a tough matchup for us.”
Trevin Salme hit six threes to lead the Pirates with 18 points, while Grayson Humphrey added 15 points with five threes of his own.
Gavan Muller added 14 points, while Jackson Knittle was right behind him with 13.
“We hate losing as much as anyone,” Salme said. “But there are things we’ll learn from this game. We’ll be better for it. That I know.”
Adna (0-1) will get another at win No. 1 on Friday at Winlock.
