Adna catches fire in second half to knock off Toutle Lake

Following a slow first half offensively, the Adna boys basketball team, led by Trevin Salme, rolled in the second half to prevail 70-57 over Toutle Lake Thursday night.

Salme scored 24 of his 29 points in the second half, including four of his five 3-pointers. Adna narrowly led 10-9 after one and 24-21 at halftime before the Pirates erupted with a 23-11 third quarter. Salme scored 10 in the frame.

Both offenses couldn’t miss in the fourth quarter, as Toutle Lake’s Jonas Schelb and Salme went blow for blow with 14 points apiece in the final eight minutes. The Ducks outscored the Pirates 25-23 in the fourth, but Adna’s third quarter run proved to be the difference.

“Not our best game, by a mile. We did play a good third quarter, but outside of that, we didn’t piece together enough good possessions at either end,” Adna head coach Luke Salme said.

Salme’s 29 points were a game high, while Landen Cline and James Greenwood each finished in double figures with 12 and 10, respectively. Grayson Humphrey tallied seven, and Kaden Richardson scored five. The Kephart brothers — Kannen and Trent — combined for seven points.

Adna (11-2, 9-0 Central 2B League) remains unscathed through the first nine league games heading into the battle of the last two undefeated teams at Toledo (8-1, 7-0 C2BL) on Saturday.
