The Oakville girls basketball team overcame a double-digit deficit on Friday, coming back to defeat Mary M. Knight 46-43.

The Acorns trailed throughout most of the game and trailed by as many as 11 in the third quarter. They came back to get within four by the start of the fourth, and Carolann Black hit three three-pointers in the final frame to help the Acorns take the lead.

The Owls were down to five players due to foul trouble, and after Coastal League MVP Cloey Fletcher left the game with an injury, they had to play the final 80 seconds with just four. Fletcher had scored 26 points before leaving the game.

Black finished with 12 points, as did Nae Nae Filitaula. Eighth-grader Riyah Filitaula added 10, while Ui Siufanua scored seven and Vivi Cruz added five.

“Both teams have improved a lot over the past two seasons,” Oakville coach Kevin Cavanagh said. “It was a great game where both teams deserved a win.”

Oakville (7-4, 2-2 1B CVL) will be at home again on Monday to host the Washington School for the Deaf.
