An infant and a toddler who were abandoned in the woods near Jacksonville were rescued by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Friday afternoon.

Deputies were searching for 24-year-old Justin Ryan Trompeter of Trail, who is facing allegations of domestic violence assault, robbery, theft, and reckless endangerment from an incident that happened Feb. 7 in Shady Cove.

Deputies learned that Trompeter was hiding with the 6-month and 1½-year-old children deep in the woods surrounding Jacksonville. They found the children alone in a car at the top of Wagon Trail Drive at about 1:30 p.m. The children were checked by medics and turned over to the Department of Human Services.

New charges of child neglect are being added by the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office asks anyone who knows where Trompeter is to to call Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon at (541) 776-7206.
