Five different Napavine players had at least two hits on Wednesday in a 15-2 Central 2B League baseball win over Rainier.
Napavine pounded out 12 hits in four team at-bats, scoring 11 runs in the bottom of the third inning to break a 2-2 tie.
“I thought we played well. The kids executed, and they had some good approaches at the plate,” Napavine coach Brian Demarest said. “I just thought, all in all, 1 through 9 we put good swings on the ball.”
Ashton Demarest led the way at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Laythan Demarest went 2-for-3 and drove in a pair of runs, Connor Holmes went 2-for-4 with an RBI, Braiden Osborn was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Austin Chapman went 2 for 2 with a double and an RBI. Gavin Parker added a hit and drove in two runs.
Parker worked all five innings for Napavine, striking out nine and allowing one hit without an earned run.
“We had a good outing from Gavin, which was nice,” Demarest said. “And we played some good defense behind him.”
Ryder Cruse had the Mountaineers’ lone hit.
Rainier (3-4) plays at Kalama on Saturday. Napavine (6-1) plays at Adna on Saturday.
Levi Gates had a big day at the plate to lead Adna to a 12-1 road win over Onalaska Wednesday in C2BL baseball action.
Gates went 3-for-3 with a triple and drove in four runs, leading an Adna attack that tallied seven hits and drew nine walks in the win.
Freshman Tristan Percival got the win for Adna, striking out six and allowing one hit in three scoreless innings of work.
“He showed some character,” Adna coach Jon Rooklidge said. “He didn’t have his best stuff today but wiggles out of some things and showed some grit.”
Ryan Wickert worked 1.2 innings in relief, allowing one hit without a run. Asa Ingle went 1-for-2 and added an RBI for the Pirates.
Danny Dalsted went 2-for-2 for the Loggers.
Onalaska (2-6) hosts Morton-White Pass on Saturday. Adna (6-1-1) hosts Napavine on Saturday.
Kalama’s Noah Imboden pitched a three-hit shutout while fanning 14 Toledo batters as the Indians took a 5-0 loss to the Chinooks Wednesday on the road.
Justin Filla, Jesse Towns and Brannon Guyor recorded the only hits for Toledo. Toledo loaded the bases in the first inning, but couldn’t come up with the clutch hit.
Caden Schultz threw three innings for the Indians, striking out two and allowing one hit. Ryan Bloomstrom tossed two innings, striking out two and allowing one earned run off one hit and three walks. Brandon Guyer threw one inning with two strikeouts and one hit.
Next up for Toledo (2-5) is a noon double-header at Winlock on Saturday.
Hunter Hazen smashed three hits, including a triple, but Morton-White Pass was unable to overcome Stevenson at home Wednesday, falling 7-4.
MWP used three pitchers, starting with senior Eathan Smathers, an all-league football player, who struck out five batters and allowed five runs on five hits in three innings of work.
Sophomore Payton Brown pitched two innings, giving up one run on a hit and a walk. Freshman Keaton Thompson tossed the final two innings, striking out one and allowing one run on one walk.
The Timberwolves finished with six total hits, with Jace Peters hitting two of them and Thompson adding one.
MWP falls to 1-6 and heads to Onalaska for a noon matchup on Saturday.
